Lou Malnati’s – Deep Dish Pizza

As I mentioned in my previous post, dinner on our first night in Chicago was at the extremely popular restaurant known as Lou Malnati’sThere are tons and tons of different places in Chicago who are famous for their deep dish pizza, but Lou Malnati’s is supposed to be one of the best. They have been around since the 1940’s!!  Jared and I decided we needed to see what all the fuss was about. Chicago-67 Chicago-68I was very eager to try some authentic deep dish pizza, because everyone knows that pizza is my favorite food. Lou Malnati’s is one of the most iconic restaurants in all of Chicago, so I had a feeling it would be pretty great.
Chicago-70 Chicago-71 Chicago-72 Chicago-73Chicago-74This location had a very cool ambiance and a modern feel. We were greeted immediately and were seated with no wait! We went on a Thursday evening, but on the weekends there is typically a wait.
Chicago-75Chicago-76Chicago-77There is outdoor seating which is so nice for families or large groups.Chicago-78Chicago-79Chicago-80Chicago-81Chicago-82Jared was just about as excited as I was! Chicago-83Chicago-84Chicago-85Chicago-86Our waiter was extremely helpful in guiding us when it came to ordering our food. We wanted to make sure we ordered the most popular items on the menu! He said we HAD to try the Malnati salad, because everyone loves it! Jared and I split the small salad and we couldn’t finish it; It was huge!! I was glad the waiter reccomened the salad because it was wonderful. It had bacon, olives, tomatoes, mushrooms, and gorgonzola cheese. The best part about the salad was the sweet vinaigrette dressing. YUM!
Chicago-87Chicago-88Chicago-89Chicago-91Chicago-92After about 30 minutes, our pizza arrived. Per our server’s recommendation, we ordered the small (4 slice) Malnati Classic.  It’s made with lean sausage, some extra cheese and vine-ripened tomato sauce on Buttercrust. You might be thinking…”Hm….buttercrust? That’s weird…” But no, you’re wrong. It’s not weird….It’s perfection. The crust is SO flavorful, and unlike any other pizza crust I’ve had.

Chicago-96Chicago-97Chicago-98Chicago-99The size of this pizza was perfect. Jared and I each ate two slices and were full, but not STUFFED. There is nothing worse than leaving a restaurant with a belly ache! Instead, all we left with were huge smiles and happy hearts. That pizza was unreal. Chicago-100Chicago-101Chicago-102So, probably some of the best news I’ve heard in a while is that you can have Lou Malnati’s pizza shipped to you. I’m serious. It sounds too good to be true! You can find out more about that here. I think that may be going down at our house for my next birthday or something! 😛

We were so glad we had the opportunity to visit Lou Malnati’s and try their famous deep dish pizza. If you’re planning to visit Chicago any time soon, I highly recommend stopping by so you can see for yourself just how fabulous it really is!
